IppoviaCasentino, the upper valley of the Arno, is a land of castles, romanesque churches, Della Robbia terracottas, dantesque places and famous religious sites, renowned in Italy and worldwide for wood craft, iron, stone and “wool cloth”; it is considered one of the most beautiful valleys of Tuscany.
For his inimitable charm, Casentino has often been cited and praised by famous writers such as Dante and D’Annunzio and famous men of faith have based its spiritual headquarters here like San Francisco and San Romualdo, respectively in La Verna and Camaldoli. Given the beauty of its forests in 1992 it was declared “National Park”.
The horse trail connects each of the medieval historical sites located in the Valley as well as the neighboring abbey of Vallombrosa. Along easy paths are numerous recreational facilities that can provide appropriate assistance to horses and where riders and licensed guides can accompany you safely. The horse trail is about 400 km long and is composed of a ring of the ridge and a middle coast, joined together by 5 connection paths.
